Jewelry Info and Care

Gold Filled Jewelry:

14 karat Gold Filled is composed of a solid layer of gold mechanically bonded to a base of either brass or sterling silver. Gold Filled has 100% more gold than gold plating and is much more valuable and tarnish resistant. The karat gold layer must be at least 1/20 (5%) of the item's total weight. The value of gold-filled is greater than gold-plated because gold-filled has an actual layer of karat gold, not just a microscopic film, as is the case with gold-plated items.

Gold Filled jewelry offers quality gold at an affordable price.

Gold filled jewelry is nickel free, hypo-allergenic and tarnish resistant.

Sterling Silver Jewelry:

.925 Sterling Silver is nickel free, hypoallergenic and consists of at least 92.5% silver, the remaining 7.5% consists of copper.

Caring For Your Jewelry:

.925 Sterling silver will tarnish, turn darker when exposed to air, moisture, sweat, etc.

Gold filled jewelry is much more tarnish resistant than .925 sterling silver.

I recommend to store both .925 sterling silver and gold filled jewelry in a dry place, away from excess heat, humidity or moisture.

To keep your jewelry the cleanest and brightest, avoid wearing in the bath, shower, swimming pools, hot tubs or in seawater. Avoid exposure to harsh chemicals, cleaners, and perfumes.

Both sterling silver and gold filled jewelry can be cleaned and polished with a basic jewelry polishing cloth, or cotton flannel.

Sterling silver chains and solid silver pieces can be cleaned with baking soda, hot water and aluminium foil. Place a layer of aluminum foil in a bowl, lay your chain(s) in the bowl on top of the foil and sprinkle baking soda covering the silver pieces. Pour in hot almost boiling water, and watch and smell the chemical reaction. After a few minutes remove your silver pieces and dry immediately. (Avoid this method with pieces with stones, crystals and gems.)
